How I Grew My Scentsy Business Without Traditional Parties

I’ve been an Independent Scentsy Consultant in Australia since 2019, and I’ve never built my Scentsy business around traditional home parties. Social media, samples, conversations and relationships became my way of doing things, and seven years later, they still are.

Traditional parties were never going to work for me

When I started my Scentsy business in Australia in 2019, I was homeschooling Jordan and traditional home parties just were not realistic for my life.

I wasn’t going to spend my weekends packing the car, setting up displays and trying to fit my family around a party calendar.

So I built differently.

Social media became my party room. I shared the products I actually used, made samples, answered questions and got to know people without needing them to invite me into their homes.

It wasn’t fancy. It was consistent, personal and something I could do around my life instead of the other way around.

That ended up being one of the best decisions I made because when 2020 pushed so much of everyday life online, I was already there.

Social media became my party room

I didn’t need a lounge room full of people to build my Scentsy business or talk about the products I genuinely used.

Facebook became the place where I shared what I was using, new products, fragrance favourites and the everyday reality of having far too much Scentsy in my own house.

But I never wanted my page to feel like one long sales catalogue.

I talked to people. I answered questions. I shared the things I genuinely loved and I was honest when something wasn’t right for everyone.

Over time, customers got to know me, not just the products I sold.

That is still how I want to run my business today. I would much rather someone buy the right thing because I helped them choose it than sell them something they don’t need.

Samples did what a party table couldn’t

One thing I learnt pretty quickly is that fragrance is hard to explain through a screen.

I can tell you something smells amazing until I’m blue in the face, but your nose might completely disagree with mine.

Scentsy samples gave people the chance to actually try the fragrances and products for themselves without sitting through a party or feeling pressured to place an order.

From there, word of mouth became incredibly important to my business. Customers told friends, friends became customers and people came back because they knew they could ask me a question and get a genuine answer.

Even now, referrals mean far more to me than chasing random people online.

I want someone to recommend me because they had a good experience with me, not because I asked them to spam their friends with my link.

It worked because people got to know me

Social media gave me somewhere to show up as a Scentsy Consultant, but the real reason my business worked was the relationships I built with customers.

People learnt pretty quickly that I wasn’t going to chase them, pressure them or tell them every new product was something they absolutely had to have.

I shared what I used. I answered questions. I remembered what people liked. I followed up when it made sense and left them alone when it didn’t.

That meant people felt comfortable coming back to me.

Some customers only wanted wax. Some loved Laundry. Some waited for licensed collections or a sale. Some just messaged me every now and then when they needed something.

That suited me perfectly.

I didn’t need everyone to shop the same way. I just needed to be someone they trusted when they did want Scentsy.

Seven years later, I still build it my way

The way I run my Scentsy business has changed over the years, but the basics really haven’t.

I still use social media. I still give out samples. I still rely heavily on referrals and word of mouth. And I still believe being myself works better than trying to sound like a salesperson.

I’ve never built my business around traditional home parties, and I’ve learnt that you don’t have to copy what everyone else is doing to make Scentsy work for you.

What worked for me was finding a way to fit Scentsy around my life, rather than trying to fit my life around Scentsy.

Some years have been huge. Others definitely haven’t.

But seven years later I’m still here, still sharing products I genuinely use, still talking far too much about fragrance and still doing this in a way that feels like me.

Could Scentsy fit around your life too?

There isn’t one right way to build a Scentsy business. If you’ve ever wondered what joining actually involves, I’ll give you the real version, including the good bits, the work involved and what you can expect from me as your sponsor.
